Animated video learning

I love using short, animated videos inside a course or as standalone microlearning. Animation can:

  • Simplify abstract or complex information

  • Illustrate a story or process

  • Grab attention

  • Boost retention

  • Meet learners where they are

Here’s a short snippet below from one of my microlearning courses. I first determine the goal for the video, the content and storyline. I build the animation in a tool called Vyond.

Make it interactive!

Here’s another quick snippet from the same video. I added the animation into Articulate Storyline and then inserted knowledge check questions that allowed the learner to interact with the content. The knowledge check helps make sure the learner is paying attention AND reinforces the content. You can spice up the answers by adding sound effects when the answer is right or wrong!
